Happy Thanksgiving

From Mesdames des Macarons to your family and friends, we wish to extend our warmest holiday wishes.

We would like to give thanks to all of our friends, family, and fans of macarons across Cape Cod, the South Coast and all the way up into Boston for your support.  To show a little gratitude, we gave away a dozen macarons to our Cape Cod Five raffle winner earlier this week.  Here's Bob, picking up his wife Beverly's winning box of macarons, with our baker, Katy at Cape Cod Five in Mashpee.

Congrats to Bob and Beverly.  We all hope you have a safe and warm holiday with your family in Worcester!

To all, enjoy your pie!  And for those of you who ordered macarons to go with your desserts tomorrow, bon appetit!

What is it about Pumpkin Pie Macarons?

Just what is it about Pumpkin Pie Macarons that's got everyone going "mmmn"?

Is it the blend of seasonal spices mixed in to our cakey macaron shells?

Maybe it's the gooey marshmallow frosting peeking out of the sides of each macaron?

Or maybe, just maybe, it's the hidden jewel of sweet, pumpkin filling?

It could be one of those individual tasty elements, but we think it's a combination of the spice, the sweet and the seasonal that makes the new Pumpkin Pie Macarons your new favorite.

Place your Thanksgiving orders now by emailing mesdames.des.macarons@gmail.com

Interview with the logo Artist

Mike Regan, little brother to Mesdames Owner/Baker Katy Acheson, took on the monuments task of creating the Mesdames Logo.  To get to know the brain behind the beauty (the lady in the logo, of course), Katy asked Mike a few questions she thought you might enjoy the answers to:

You're officially one of the Mesdames Des Macarons, that's quite an honor. How does that make you feel?
- It's actually kind of exhilarating! When I started doodling out logo ideas for Mesdames des Macarons, I hadn't thought of it as much more than a favor for my sister, but as I see her dream grow I see my experience doing freelance illustration work grow. I can't wait to see what other projects Katy conjures up for me!

Where do you draw (no pun intended) your inspiration?
- A lot of it is looking at other artists, such as Steve Purcell, Doug TenNapel and Jeff Smith and anything from great movies, like the Good, the Bad and the Ugly (my favorite), to books to video games. If I find something striking and eye catching I almost always end up doodling it and trying to incorporate it to new projects!

Do you have a favorite artist(s)?
- Too many! I swear I find a new favorite artist every day. Like I said above: Steve Purcell, Doug TenNapel and Jeff Smith are some of my favorites. Others who stick out are Katsuya Tarada, Skottie Young, and Anthony Clark (a great guy to look at for simple, but brilliant art).

When Mesdames Des Macarons gets a shop, will you help decorate the shop with your paintings?
- Heck yeah! That is, assuming any of my personal paintings are classy enough.

Tell us a little about yourself, where are you?
- I'm Michael Regan and I'm at home.

How is school? Tell us what you're studying right now.
- School's going well! My illustration professors, while a little crazy, are amazingly helpful. In this past month alone, I've gotten better with anatomy than I had all of last year!

What is your favorite meal of the day?
- The one I remember to eat. So half a bag of Doritos.

What is your favorite sweet treat? (You don't have to say macaron, but...)
- Macarons. Also, sour patch kids.

Out of the macarons you've tried, what is your favorite flavor?
- The green and pink ones! (he's referring to our summer favorite, Lime Ricky)

What is your favorite Holiday? What do you think would be the best tasting Macaron flavor for that holiday?
- Halloween wins if only because it always have the best atmosphere. Are pumpkin spice macarons possible?

Any new flavor suggestions?
- Tron blue raspberry! That'd probably require a lot of dangerous chemicals to get that glow-in-the-dark effect, though.

If you're interested in seeing more of Mike's artwork or would like to work with him on a design project, you can contact him directly via his email address: M.PatrickRegan@gmail.com

Mesdames' New Look!

Friends and fans, as you know or don't know, Mesdames Des Macarons is a small, young, very young company of women working together to bring traditional French macarons to the masses (well, the local masses for now).  We've created a tasty, sweet, and out-of-the-box treat and are slowly introducing everyone on Cape Cod to the macaron.  We've also been bumbling through all the admin that goes along with creating a company (however small or large, the work is monumentous).  We can't do everything alone, though.  So when it came to creating an image, we turned to our family.  More specifically, Katy the baker turned to her brother, Mike the artist.  This is what he created:
And we LOVE IT!  We hope you do too, because this little dame is here to stay.

Maple Brown Sugar Macarons

It's Autumn in New England, and what better way to get into the spirit of the season than with some new macaron flavors?  This week we experimented with brown sugar, and the results were quite tasty.  Next on the baking tray are pumpkin spice macarons and sweet potato pie macarons.

A full list of Autumn flavors will go up as soon as our official taste-testers (what lucky husbands!) have approved the newest series of flavors.

Summer Orders are Flooding In

Bonjour!

It's 80 degrees, 80% humidity outside, and Mesdames' oven is on along with the air conditioning unit.  The baking doesn't stop for summer heat.  A batch of mocha macs are about to be baked while blueberry lemonade and white chocolate rose macs are getting dressed in little bags and bows for some lucky office workers to share next week.

You can place an order at any time by emailing mesdames.des.macarons@gmail.com.  The orders are coming in small waves at the moment, though, so please allow at least one week for your macaron order to be filled.  Shipping details for those macarons lovers outside of Massachusetts are under assessment.  We will hopefully be providing access to an online store soon as well.

Merci and thank you for supporting our insane baking habits!

De Vallière Macaron

Happy 4th of July from Mesdames des Macarons!
To celebrate, we've made a mildly geeky, but totally tasty new macaron flavor for you to try.  Considering that macarons are French, a little research went into naming the macaron something that represents how the French helped America win her independence.
During the American War for Independence, the French supplied American soldiers with weapons and ammunition.  These supplies were used to win the Battle of Saratoga in 1777.  This battle is considered the turning point of the war, in which American colonists won their right to independence and freedom.
The most notable gift among the French weaponry was de Vallière cannon.  Developed by Florent-Jean de Vallière, these cannons were the most accurate of its time and proved pivotal in the Battle of Saratoga.
So, just like de Vallière’s cannon, our Vallière Macarons are packed with a punch and sure to win you over!  The shells are busting with the rich flavor of organic, freeze dried blueberries and strawberries, and then sandwiched together with our homemade butter cream frosting enriched with Gustare Coconut Balsamic Vinegar!
These macarons are for sale, starting today, at the Gustare store in Mashpee Commons, but until supplies last!

Bon appétit!

Macadeiros

What do you get when you sandwich a Brigadeiro inside two Macaron shells?  I call it Macadeiro!

Fellow foodie and budding business woman, Ela of Brigadeiro Barn paid a visit to Mesdames kitchen on Friday night to exchange ideas and tasty treats.  The result?  Delicious.  We're looking forward to trying new flavor combinations, and sharing our discoveries with you at the 16th Brazilian Independence Day Festival later this year (details forthcoming).

Mesdames in the Kitchen and Beyond

Everything seems to settle down a little after a holiday or event, which gives us time to do some experimenting in the kitchen -- everything from the kind of sprinkles that work best on top of our macarons (specifically sprinkles that don't cause craters in the cookie shells as they melt in the oven), to exactly how much cocoa to use in the chocolate macarons, and every little thing in between.  With all the macarons coming out of the kitchen, it's a good thing that we've been invited to a few graduation parties where we can share some of our success and sometimes messy failures.

Some new flavors are under consideration, as well as some new business developments.  At this stage, we're taking things rather slowly, perfecting each element so that we don't have to back track and try all over again.  Part of our trials and tribulations at the moment are sorting out shipping details.  I (Katy) posted a dozen macarons via the USPS to a friend in California.  She reported back that most of the macarons made it in tact, despite the postman tossing the fragile-labelled box over their gate instead of placing it down.  Not to say it was his fault, though.  This is the exact sort of treatment a box of any sort is expected to receive, fragile or not.  Fortunately, my personal employers at Gustare Oils and Vinegars are kind and supportive enough to allow the blossoming Mesdames des Macarons use of their Fedex account and supplies.  Our next shipment test will hopefully be even more of a success than the last.

Stick with us, and if anyone wants to participate in a shipping experiment for a discounted rate, please contact us at mesdames.des.macarons@gmail.com.

Merci!

Coonamessett Farm Artisans' Fair

Mesdames spent the holiday weekend at the Coonamessett Farm in Falmouth toting our newest, brightest summer flavors: Lime Ricky, Shirley Temple, Arnold Palmer, and Peach Melba.

The Coonamessett Farm Artisans' Fair was Mesdames second fair.  Our first step into the Artisans' world was at the Holiday Boutique at the Thayer Nursery in Milton, MA.  Considering this was only our second fair, I think we've done very well.  It's hard to predict what people will be drawn to in terms of product.  At the Thayer event, everyone wanted boxes of macarons; we went home with lots and lots of left over mac-pops.  At the Coonamessett Farm, we found ourselves taking boxes apart to make more mac-pops.

Sunday morning, we broke out some of our most popular flavors for sampling.  Above, there are pieces of Mocha, Peach Melba, Lime Ricky and Arnold Palmer.  The Mocha samples went the fastest.  Without a doubt, Mocha is the local favorite.

We still have a lot of growing up to do still, but considering that I (Katy) have only been baking macarons for a year and a half now, and our company has only been a company since December, we think we're doing pretty well.

A big MERCI! to all of our friends, family and fellow artisans who have supported and helped us so far.  We owe you a cookie!
